December

Bah! Suddenly it's December. And no, it didn't sneak up on me in that lazy, foggy sort of way where you just kind of roll into the next month on your calendar all zen-like and ready for what lies ahead and notice that, hey, it's a new month.
No, November zoomed past at lightening speeds thanks, in part, to the giant work project I am 100% in charge of that occurs in early November, and then also the whole Thanksgiving holiday extravaganza, which came with a very cool visit from the parentals, but also with a delicious side order of something akin to bronchitis only without the wherewithal to actually be treatable with antibiotics. This of course (minus the lingering cough I am still fighting) all came to screeching halt 7 days ago when the calendar was flipped and I slammed into the giant wall of December... Which, I might add, is already rapidly slipping away as the days tick away and I am only about 40% done with my shopping. Bah!
The good news? The tree is up. One whole stored-in-the-closet-all-year-for-its-one-month-of-use-because-putting-it-in-the-garage-might-mean-spider-surprises box of pretty glass ball ornaments went up. Then the second box of all the other ornaments, each delicately wrapped in tissue paper was opened, looked at, and closed almost immediately. I just didn't have the patience to unwrap all of those this year. Maybe next year.
So, the tree this year is a tree of glass balls and lights. I like to think: simple and elegant. Street viewers will think: naked tree. But this is because I didn't decorate the street-view side of the tree as I couldn't be bothered to mountain-goat my way over the writing desk to wedge myself between tree and said front window to hang ornaments.
The pups have taken to the tree nicely. It was, of course, a glorious thing to try and eat and/or jump into, but a few squirts of THE PUNISHER squirt bottle and we seem to be decidedly less interested in destroying the tree. So it lives another day.
In other news, all Stanley wants for Christmas is his two front teeth... Because his baby teeth are falling out and we've taken to calling him the oh-so-humiliating Gummy McGee.

I wondered what happened to you in November without even one funny Laurel post to keep me going. Your tree looks lovely. I haven't even bought one yet. I looked at some, but guess what, they were moldy. Yes, I know it is disgusting that I guess it what you get when you take a tree from the Canadian tundra and send it to the arid desert (still 90 degrees here). Yuck. I'll search another day.

So, for one, it makes sense but I have never thought about dogs losing their teeth (and wanting them for Christmas).. and two, I'm so jealous that you have an extra closet that can be designated for the Christmas tree to sit all year. Lucky you!

Since it may be 2009 before we hear from you again (hope not)- Happy New Year!!

I wish spraying baby Cakes in the face would cure him of his fasination with the ornaments. I think he'd just laugh at me. And his cute little gumms look almost as cute as Abby's, although her teeth are a comin! Glad to see you're ok or slowly getting better!

Oh my gosh, thank heavens you're back! You have no idea the void you leave when work gets crazy and you get bronchitis (the NERVE). Continue feeling better, dearie, and your tree looks lovely. This is our first year at home and only our second tree of our whole marriage, so aside from a few weird ornaments, we don't have anything. So I think I'm going to be with you and just do lights and ball ornaments (I'll get one of those boxes-o'-balls [hehe] for $10 or something). Yay Christmas!

I love your blog! Your so good at telling it how it is and i just get a chuckle out of it all. I'm so sorry you have had that darn cough! It just sucks. Don't let it go on for to long without getting it checked again, I would hate to have it turn for the worst.

Your tree pictures look beautiful and I am sure it is even more so in person. Sorry we will be missing you four this year for the holidays. Hope you all stay healthy now! Good luck to Stanley on the Christmas wish. We'll make sure to remind Santa when the kids get to talk to him.
