The Great Strawberry Debacle of October 2007
So we had very important guests for dinner tonight (read: family) and I decided I would make strawberry shortcake for dessert from scratch (read: Bisquick.) Ian came in to help cut the berries and before I could stop him he decided to pick up a random knife from the sink and commence chopping. Not on the clean cutting board on the counter, mind you, the one half in the sink with stuff all over it that I had used to prep dinner. The stuff? Garlic. The knife he used? The garlic knife. The result? A bowl full of berries that tasted like garlic. Mmmmm (read: gross.) Classic! Thank goodness for the homemade (read: store-bought) pumpkin pie back up plan. Anyway-- I can now answer that age-old mystery (read: no one cares) if strawberries really absorb flavors from other surfaces.

Yummy, sounds tasty! Way to go Ian!
why does none of this surprise me? the part about ian or the part about you having a plan-b dessert.
Of course, garlic was involved...remember the Garlic Fest of 1998 at The Glenhood? If Ian had been around then, he would have known not to use that cutting board and knife...his sniffer would have picked right up on it! ;)
good to know...thanks Ian!
ruined stawberries make me want to cry
you should have told the vip's that you added a secret ingredient and see if they fessed up to it being yuckers (I made that word up for you)
They do actually have garlic desserts, even garlic ice cream if you ever care to go the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, which you might be educed to one day with all the fun nightlife in Monterey.
Garlic makes everything taste better right? It just adds that little extra zing to any dessert. Strawberry- garlic cupcakes?
